Sassuolo Working on Renewal for ‘Most Important Player’

The fit of rage against a fan after the Coppa Italia exit at the hands of Emilian derby rivals Modena hasn’t dented the reputation of Domenico Berardi in the eyes of Sassuolo. The day after the incident, the Neroverdi chief Giovanni Carnevali has come forth with a surprising move. The forward’s agent Simeone Seghedoni sat down with the club management and discussed a potential contract extension for the 28-year-old.

Tuttomercatoweb reports that Carnevali put forward a five-year renewal deal with the player’s representative with the aim of ‘permanently’ holding onto their prized academy graduate until the end of his career. The executive confirmed in an exclusive interview with Sky Italia (via SassuoloNews).

“We are talking about the possibility of renewing his contract, we have always said that Berardi is the most important Sassuolo player.”

The attacker currently earns €2M net per season excluding bonuses, and is in line to bag little more. He has been in the crosshairs of several Serie A giants, including Fiorentina, Milan, Napoli, Juventus and Jose Mourinho’s Roma. However, as it looks, he will stay put with his boyhood club. Berardi has 79 goals in 223 appearances for Sassuolo since graduating from their youth ranks in 2012.
