Saudi Arabia Keeps Trying to Lure Mourinho and Immobile

José Mourinho and Ciro Immobile passed on transferring to Saudi Arabia last summer despite conspicuous offers. The Lazio striker recently expressed a hint of regret, while the Special One stated that he’d go there at some point.

Saudi Pro League executive Carlo Nohra said they were still interested in the duo to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Cristiano Ronaldo had a great effect but is one of a kind. He changed everything in terms of visibility, relevance, and TV deals. We hope Mourinho could have the same impact. I can’t say he’ll be our next coup for sure. However, it’s clear that he’d be a major leap in quality from many points of view. I’m personally waiting for him, but I don’t speak for the whole Saudi Arabia.”

The official was quizzed about Immobile.

“It’s never too late, and the quality will never disappear. We want to bring the best we can to provide better entertainment to Saudi football and its people and share it with the rest of the world.”

Nohra dismissed the talks about joining the Champions League.

“It’s a model for us, but we don’t just want to copy, but rather create something of our own. We’re attentive to what happens in the football world. Our priority is to build a valid, enthralling, and recognized product. There’s no intention to get closer to Europe at this stage.”
