Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini provided his thoughts of his side’s season so far in an interview during the international break.
So far this season, Atalanta sit in sixth place after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Inter with a total of 27 points, marking their third consecutive lost.
La Dea had a flying start to the campaign as they were unbeaten for the first eleven games of the season, only adrift from the league-leaders Napoli by five points until their 2-1 defeat to I Partenopei.
Within the back-line, Scalvini has been one of the stand-out defenders as the 18 year-old center-back has featured in eleven matches within the Serie A for Atalanta, attracting interest from European giants through his brilliant distribution with his left foot and his physicality.
While speaking with Rai Italia, as relayed by Calciomercato, Scalvini touched upon his individual performances and his squad’s mentality after enduring a rough patch of form:
“After three defeats in a row, the moment is a bit dark. The championship had started well , changing something in defense compared to previous seasons. But I have to thank the team and Gasperini if I’m in the national team and with Albania I played as a starter for the first time.
“In my club I’m playing behind or in the middle, without preferences because I can do well in both roles. Like Atalanta, the commitment has never been lacking and in any case we are on the right track. Being able to defend the blue shirt from the first minute was very exciting. Maybe I seem cold, but I have emotions too “.
