Senesi Discuses Final vs Roma and Call by the Azzurri

Marcos Senesi will face Roma in the European Conference League final: “It is a new competition, and so nobody has it in their trophy case yet. We want to win it to make history for our club. It will be my first final. We did a mini-retreat in Portugal after conquering the title. It could help us, but they will have more rhythm since they will be coming off intense matches.”

Senesi could have been called up by Italy for the upcoming clash against Argentina, but he chose La Albiceleste, as he told Olé: “I think the fact that two national teams want me is wonderful. I am happy because it means that I am doing my job well. The Azzurri expressed genuine interest, and I talked with Roberto Mancini. More than trying to convince me, he explained his project about assembling a new squad. He is trying to rebuild it and wanted me to be part of it. However, I spoke with La Seleccion’s staff afterward and relayed that I wished to feature with my home country. My decision was already abundantly clear.”

Senesi also weighed in on Italy not qualifying for the World Cup: “It is a shame because they are the reigning Euro champions. I listened to their proposal, but the truth is that I have wanted to play with Argentinian since I was a kid, so I did not really have any doubt on the matter.” The Feyenoord defender is reportedly a summer target for Roma, Inter and Fiorentina.
