Scudetto Champions Inter Among Candidates to Sign Hummels

Mats Hummels left Borussia Dortmund earlier last month having played his final match for the club in the UEFA Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid. The free agent is now a transfer target for several top clubs, with European dark horses Bayer Leverkusen and several Serie A sides emerging as potential destinations.

As per latest reports from German outlet BILD, Roma and both the Milan clubs are strong in pursuit of the veteran defender. Interest from Milan in particular is increasing by the day, with the Nerazzurri reportedly expressing the latest interest to sign Hummels before the start of the new season.

Kicker recently reported of Bundesliga title holders Leverkusen coming forward for the World Cup winner, while Roma were the first club from Italy to ask information about the defender’s availability in their bid to replace Chris Smalling. Meanwhile, the Rossoneri have long to have maintained dormant interest in Hummels.

However, it is reportedly defending Serie A champions Inter leading the race to sign Hummels ahead of the new campaign, as they are expected to propose a deal to the player in the coming weeks. Another surprising candidate in the transfer race is newly-promoted Serie A side Como.

Our Take on Hummels

The German defender is as fresh as ever and it is surprising why Julian Nagelsmann decided to leave the 35-year-old out of Germany’s UEFA Euro 2024 squad. Any club, including Inter, Roma or Milan, would benefit from Hummels’ experience in the squad.
