Serie A Giants Caught in FIFA Club World Cup Confusion

Juventus and Inter are patiently waiting to see what will happen with the new FIFA Club World Cup. It has come under fire right away considering the opposition of the players and coaches due to the extra busy schedule. The competition is facing numerous obstacles, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in the United States from June 15th to July 13th, 2025. There aren’t many guarantees about it yet. The international federation has had issues selling the TV rights. It planned to bring in €4B. The auction to broadcast it in the Americas, Middle East, and Northern Africa was deserted. FIFA had been in talks with Apple, but their €1B offer was well short of the request.

The Club World Cup cost €2B just to be organized. President Gianni Infantino is looking for funds from Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the list of locations is in flux with nine months to go. There have been problems with the sponsorship deals too, which will affect the prize pool.

The participants were supposed to cash in at least €50M. Juventus and Inter have tempered their expectations and believe they will get €15/20M. Moreover, there are technical problems concerning contracts, which usually expire on June 30th, and the simultaneous U-21 European Championship and the Gold Cup. FIFA isn’t entertaining a cancellation for now.

Our Take on the New Club World Cup

Scrap the whole thing and make the previous streamlined format involving all federations more appealing, perhaps moving it around on the calendar.
