Serie A Matchday 35: Fiorentina – Lazio Match Preview

Connoisseurs of action-packed football hope Fiorentina and Lazio will both score in a fifth consecutive Serie A meeting. Stadio Artemio Franchi is the venue as two experienced top-flight campaigners go head-to-head on Saturday night.

A return of one win from their last seven Serie A matches (D3, L3) has seen Fiorentina slip to only four points clear of relegation-threatened Benevento. Meanwhile, high-flying Lazio have won all but one of their previous seven league games (L1), a sequence that brought them to the threshold of a top-four finish.

Fiorentina vs. Lazio Head-To-Head

Lazio have come out victorious in each of their last three Serie A encounters with Fiorentina, with each win coming by the identical 2-1 scoreline. By extension, the Biancocelesti have defeated La Viola in five of their last six league clashes (D1), netting an average of 2.00 goals per game in that stretch.

High scoring has been a common theme in their recent top-flight H2Hs in Florence as four of the last five have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring.

Giuseppe Iachini’s men have claimed just one triumph in their last seven home league matches against Lazio (D1, L5), having won four of their previous seven such contests beforehand (D1, L2).

Teams Recent Forms

Since losing 3-1 to Sassuolo on Matchday 31, Fiorentina have gone undefeated in three Serie A games on the bounce (W1, D2). Interestingly, in-form striker Dusan Vlahovic scored the first-half opener in each of those three fixtures.

Worryingly, though, the hosts have won none of their last five Serie A outings on home soil (D2, L3), conceding an average of 2.4 goals per match. A substantial eight of the 12 goals they let in during those five fixtures came after the half-time break.

Furthermore, Fiorentina have landed just a single point from five home matches against the current top-seven sides this season (D1, L4).

In the meantime, Lazio have responded to a disastrous 5-2 away loss to Napoli with back-to-back Serie A victories over AC Milan and Genoa, returning a +4 goal difference from those wins (GF:7, GA:4).

Simone Inzaghi’s men have been ruthless in front of goal lately, having scored an average of 2.62 goals across their last eight league outings. Particularly prolific after the interval, they have notched 2+ second-half goals in five of their last six Serie A games.

Since being held to a 1-1 stalemate to Genoa in their first league match of 2021, Lazio have gone 18 straight Serie A matches without a draw for the first time in the club’s history.
