Serie A Sides Expected to Target More English Players

The fact that English players are no longer extra-EU will open up more opportunities for Serie A teams. Since they won’t count against the seasonal two-unit quota, they’ll have fewer reservations about signing them.

According to Corriere dello Sport, multiple clubs will benefit from the situation. Lazio could put pedal to the metal for Callum Hudson-Odoi, although Fulham are seriously rivaling them. Roma could take a flier on Dominic Calvert-Lewin if they can’t get their hands on Gianluca Scamacca or Alvaro Morata.

The rule change could prompt Serie A to examine other English players. Harry Maguire has been proposed to a few sides as he could leave Manchester United for the right offer. Defender-needy Napoli has been offered Trevoh Chalobah, whom Inter and Milan tracked in the past. Tottenham’s Josip Tanganga could resurface as an option for sides looking for a center-back.

The Rossoneri had also kicked the tires on Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka at the beginning of the summer. They need another midfielder, but they’ll keep pushing for Yunus Musah for now.

Our Take on More English Players Possibly Coming to Serie A

The timing was extremely bizarre because such a meaningful decision shouldn’t have come well in advance and not during the window. While it’ll have clear benefits, the wages and price tags of the footballers in question are still very sizeable hurdles.
