Serie A Trio Set to Battle It Out for Memphis Depay

Outgoing Atletico Madrid forward Memphis Depay could surprisingly continue his career in Serie A after three Italian clubs joined the race to sign the Netherlands international. According to reports in Spain, Inter, Milan, and Fiorentina have taken a keen interest in the ex-Manchester United and Barcelona misfit.

Depay’s contract at Atletico Madrid runs out at the end of June. After failing to land regular first-team football under Diego Simeone, the 30-year-old is ready to embark on a new chapter in his illustrious career. Serie A could be his next destination, with three Italian teams assessing the possibility of acquiring his services.

It’s not the first time Depay’s name has been linked with Serie A, with Milan trying to bring him to San Siro in 2021. Barcelona beat the Rossoneri to the punch three years ago, snapping the versatile forward on a Bosman deal upon his contract expiry at Lyon. But the move didn’t pan out as expected.

Three years on, Milan are ready to pursue Depay’s signature again amid protracted negotiations to sign Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee. One of the most exciting Serie A prospects is the club’s top priority, but talks with the player’s agent are not progressing as expected.

Inter could be another option for Depay in Serie A, especially considering Beppe Marotta’s proclivities for free transfers. However, Fiorentina are more determined to lure the PSV Eindhoven academy graduate to address their scoring problems. The Tuscan outfit reportedly harbors high hopes of convincing Depay to pick them over other suitors.
