Serie A will have a slightly different and more relaxed schedule next season. It will be back to normal after the Winter World Cup significantly impacted the present one that is about to end. There will be just one midweek round overall and no break in late December and early January.
The League’s CEO Luigi De Siervo explained the modifications to RAI’s radio Show La Politica nel Pallone (via Quotidiano Sportivo).
“We will have 37 rounds during the weekends in 2023/2024. We came to this decision to protect the players and give them more time to recover. There won’t be a winter break. Instead, there will be two regular matchdays on December 23rd and December 30th.”
“The Serie A schedule will be more diluted and balanced sans the need to compress it. It will be softer throughout nine months. The health of footballers and the serenity of the teams will benefit from it, along with the product on the pitch.”
“I thank the president of the players’ association Umberto Calcagno for understating how important it was not to stop in the middle of the campaign in light of the many tilts of the national teams and the European competitions.”
“The Coppa Italia is constantly growing and having major success among the public and the faithful. We have elaborated a project to change its format and make it more similar to the FA Cup. We’ll submit it to the Serie A teams to obtain their assessements. There are some logistical problems that need solving.”
