Shotstopper Meret Rallies Napoli ‘Revenge’ Against Cremonese

Napoli welcome Cremonese next in Serie A and goalkeeper Alex Meret has voiced the hunger for revenge among the Partenopei ranks, following their elimination from Coppa Italia at the hands of the Italian minnows. The Cremona-based outfit went on to win 5-4 on penalties against Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona last month after a 2-2 draw at the end of extra-time.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli (via TuttoJuve), Meret disclosed the team’s high-morale ahead of the Cremonese game

“There is a lot of enthusiasm, it’s a very positive moment for us. We have gained an excellent advantage over our pursuers, but we prepare match by match, thinking only of next Sunday so we are concentrated on the Cremonese, also because in the Italian Cup it went as we know and we want to take revenge.”

Cremonese are the only team to have won against Napoli at the Maradona this season, but the hosts remain unbeaten at home in Serie A so far.

“It was a strange match, we were in control and then with two goals, we went to extra time, then the penalty lottery. We want to take revenge, aware that if we always put this desire to win we can have it within reach.”

Meret then praised Luciano Spalletti for instilling a winning mentality within the team.

“The coach is very good at always keeping us on our toes, ready to give our all, starting from the workouts. He is very manic in all aspects. He is giving us so much from a psychological point of view, he never lets us let our guard down. We are aware that we have an important advantage, but there are many points available and we know that the more we score now the better, because we know that the season could change at any moment.”

The Partneopei won 4-1 against Cremonese in the reverse fixture. They have never won two games in a row against the Grigiorossi in Serie A, but the visitors’ poor goalscoring record of just one in seven visits away at Napoli will add hope of a ninth consecutive home victory in the league.
