Inter Boss Inzaghi Blasts San Siro Pitch Following Venezia Game

Inter manager Simone Inzaghi has refused to hide his excitement following his side’s last-gasp 2-1 home victory over newly-promoted Venezia. Edin Dzeko’s 90th-minute header fired the defending Serie A champions to a late victory over the bottom-half visitors.

Inter had to come from behind to break spirited Paolo Zanetti’s men down as Thomas Henry broke the deadlock in the 18th minute before Nicolo Barella levelled the score on the stroke of half-time.

Despite enjoying plenty of possession and creating a host of clear-cut opportunities in the second half of play, the Nerazzurri failed to penetrate Venezia’s well-positioned backline. When it looked like Inter could be running out of time, second-half substitute Denzel Dumfries delivered a pin-point cross, with Dzeko turning it home to seal the three points.

Inter got back to winning ways in Serie A following a scoreless away draw with Atalanta last time out, extending their unbeaten league streak to a staggering 14 matches. Inzaghi’s men have moved five points clear at the summit, putting more pressure on second-placed Milan to make something out of their Sunday clash against Juventus.

The Italian manager waxed lyrical about his team’s mentality as they never lost their head despite chasing the all-important winner throughout the entire 90 minutes.

The team believed in it until the end,” Inzaghi said as relayed by SempreInter. “The boys did well considering this difficult period and two matches going to extra time, plus our efforts in Bergamo and going behind early which could have caused problems.

Inzaghi also revealed his concerns about pitch conditions at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

The San Siro pitch is becoming a problem,” he continued. “It looks unplayable. Now with the break, the clubs will work to find a solution. This is not an excuse because we can always do better even on a pitch like this.
