Inter boss Simone Inzaghi waxed lyrical about his players following an overwhelming 3-0 win against Torino on Saturday evening. Back to Serie A action after a two-week hiatus for the international break, Nerazzurri erased the memory of a painful 2-2 draw with a remarkable performance at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
Despite failing to get on the scoresheet before halftime, Inter secured a landslide victory against Ivan Juric’s underachievers. Marcus Thuram opened the scoring on the stroke of the hour mark with a top-class finish from the edge of the box.
Lautaro Martinez maintained his free-scoring start to the season, heading home from close range to take his Serie A tally to 11 goals. Hakan Calhanoglu put the icing on the cake deep into stoppage time, slotting home a late penalty.
A third consecutive win over Torino has fired Inter to the top of the standings, at least temporarily. Inzaghi’s men now boast a one-point lead on arch-rivals Milan, who face off against Juventus on Sunday night.
Inzaghi was happy with his side’s showing, even though Inter failed to impress in the first half.
“The boys were great. They made sacrifices, played well without the ball and we won a big game. Taking on Torino after the break isn’t easy,” the Inter boss told the club’s website after the game. “We stayed in the game. We started well then dropped off a bit against a strong side. Well done to the boys.“
