Simone Inzaghi Lashed Out at Referees After Inter Derby Loss

Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has lashed out at the referees after his side suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Milan. Despite leading at half-time, the reigning Serie A champions conceded two late goals, throwing their title charge into doubt.

Ivan Perisic slotted home a top-class half-volley to fire Inter in front late in the second half. And it is fair to admit that the Nerazzurri dominated the game in the opening 45 minutes of play, creating a handful of scoring opportunities.

However, Inzaghi’s men got a bit complacent as the match progressed, losing interest in threatening Mike Maignan’s goal. As it often happens in football, a lackadaisical approach backfired on Inter as Olivier Giroud drew Milan level in the 75th minute.

The Frenchman completed his brace with a sublime finish from just inside the box only three minutes later to give the Rossoneri a massive victory. But it appears that Milan’s success left a bitter taste in Inzaghi’s mouth, as the Inter manager believes his men were hard done in Saturday’s Derby della Madonnina.

Per Inzaghi, Milan’s equaliser came from foul play. According to the Inter boss, the referees should have sanctioned Giroud for tackling Alexis Sanchez to the ground in the build-up to the leveller.

I don’t want to see it again,” he said on the Frenchman’s tackle on Sanchez (via SempreInter). “It was a foul, if you think it was a fair challenge that’s fine. But it is what it is.

We have to be better. Even in the first half, there were episodes. But as I said before, if we had been at 2-0 or 3-0 the referee would not have whistled in the same way.

This is how football is. We can dominate for much of the time, but we didn’t manage to score the second goal. This is how football is. We can dominate for much of the time, but we didn’t manage to score the second goal.
