Skriniar Gets Back Surgery amid Growing PSG Concerns

Milan Skriniar might have played his final game with the Inter colors. He went under the knife to address his lingering back injury. He has logged just ten minutes in the past two months. Inter announced that the defender had endoscopic surgery on his lumbar spine at the Clinique du Sport in Merignac, near Bordeaux.

The Slovak weighed in with an Instagram post.

“I wish to send a hug to my teammates and thank them for the beautiful qualification to the Champions League semifinals and reassure everybody about my condition after the problem I suffered against Porto. Along with Inter, I decided to have surgery to be able to return as soon as possible. A short rehab will follow to resume sports activity.”

According to Le Parisien (via Calcio e Finanza), PSG was getting worried about the situation and starting to question the agreement with the Slovak. They wanted him to have a physical at the Centre européen de rééducation du sportif in Capbreton during the recent international break along with their medical staff. However, Inter caught wind of it and stopped them. The center-back had surgery at a facility overseen by one of their doctors.

Skriniar was reportedly nursing a nerve issue in his back and sciatica. An expert described it as a rare injury that creates problems in the knees and ankles too. The timetable for healing is very subjective. He will most likely join PSG anyway, but he’ll go through a thorough physical before signing his contract. He was already expected to ink an incentive-laden deal, tying his wages to his number of future appearances.
