Sought-After Goal-Getter Reveals Milan Summer Contact, Says ‘Option Still Open’

Feyenoord center-forward Santiago Gimenez has confirmed Milan made a last-ditch attempt to lure him to Serie A in the last transfer window. During his recent interview with ESPN via Calciomercato, the sought-after Mexico international revealed contacts with the Rossoneri at the tail-end of the summer.

It was no secret that Milan went above and beyond to find a suitable replacement for Olivier Giroud, who left Europe to link up with MLS franchise Los Angeles FC at the end of last season. Among many names on the club’s shortlist, Gimenez was arguably the most exciting prospect alongside Lille’s Jonathan David.

However, Milan couldn’t get the deal over the line. Paulo Fonseca had to settle for a last-minute swap deal with Roma involving Alexis Saelemaekers and Tammy Abraham. Despite only scoring once this season, the Englishman’s arrival has proved a blessing in disguise, with the ex-Chelsea star enjoying a bright start at Stadio San Siro.

Gimenez could’ve taken his place. As recently confessed by the 22-year-old, Milan tried to broker his deadline-day arrival. But the deal fell through, leaving the highly-rated striker tied to De Kuip for at least one more year. His contract at Feyenoord expires in 2027, but there’s no doubt he’ll look to leave the Netherlands much sooner.

He tickled Milan fans’ imagination, saying: “This option is still open.

Milan’s interest in Gimenez is long-standing. They met his representatives in Casa Milan in 2023. The parties could sit at the negotiating table next summer.
