Spalletti Comments on Zielinski, Kim and Kvaratskhelia

Luciano Spalletti addressed some transfer market topics following a friendly between Napoli and Mallorca, which ended in a 1-1 tie. The gaffer talked to Radio Kiss Kiss.

“We haven’t always occupied the pitch well, and we were too long at times. All things considered, there were a few interesting things that we will assess and work on before the opener. We moved the ball well in the first half, while weren’t compact in the second one, and we left some holes. For the way we want to play, we can’t have certain types of giveaways. We conceded an avoidable goal.”

Spalletti touched on Piotr Zielinski and Fabian Ruiz, who might be on their way out.

“They fared well. The former was very assertive in some situations. He’s generally gentle, instead he had a few nervous reactions stemming from positive and healthy tension. That’s how I want him to be. The Spaniard misplaced two or three balls, but he’s also a player that sees past the initial pass.”

The coach praised newcomer Kim Min-Jae.

“He’s ready, both in terms of physicality and personality. He is the high-caliber defender we needed to properly substitute a star like Kalidou Koulibaly.”

Spalletti also commented on another new Napoli addition, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

“He’s inventive in tight spaces, if they come at him directly he can escape with his class. And he can score with curled shots too.”

The gaffer anticipates further signings.

“The management is taking care of that. We discussed it. If it happens, it’ll be within the confines of our wages. We have been looking to decrease the payroll since I joined, but we removed a chunk this summer and we’ll focus on improving and completing our squad now.”
