Spalletti Officially Appointed as the New Italy Coach

Luciano Spalletti is the new Italy coach, succeeding Roberto Mancini on the Azzurri’s bench after the former gaffer’s sudden and tumultuous exit. The FIGC made the announcement Friday night after coming to terms with the tactician earlier in the day.

The Tuscan manager will formally take over the team on September 1st and will be unveiled in the ensuing days. According to Sky, he has inked a three-year contract and will therefore helm the squad till the 2026 World Cup. He just won his first Scudetto with Napoli after coming close on a few occasions with Roma and Inter.

Spalletti will debut at the helm of Italy against North Macedonia on September 9th and then take on Ukraine three days later in his home debut versus Ukraine. The Azzurri lost to England and won versus Malta in the first two Euro qualifiers.

Per La Repubblica, the coach will bring his collaborators Marco Domenichini, Daniele Baldini, and Francesco Sinatti aboard. Instead, it’s unclear what will happen with the assistants that were tight with Roberto Mancini. Attilio Lombardo is currently leading the U-20 squad.

Our Take on Italy Hiring Spalletti

The Federation could only bounce back from a proper fiasco by appointing their top choice, and they did. Hopefully, a possible dispute with Napoli won’t sully his stay in the early going. The Azzurri could use some serenity.
