Spalletti Reveals Why He Rang Orsolini After Initial Omission

After omitting Riccardo Orsolini from his initial 27-man squad for Italy’s upcoming UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifier matches against Malta and England respectively, Luciano Spalletti called upon the Bologna star following fitness problems with Mattia Zaccagni and Federico Chiesa.

Spalletti didn’t think twice before ringing up the Ascoli academy graduate and revealed why he did so.

“I spoke to him after the match explaining my way of thinking, and he was very nice. The attitude he had the other time contributed to getting him called back now too.” (via TuttoBolognaweb)

Orsolini has been in impressive form of late, scoring four goals in his last two matches, having netted a hattrick in the 3-0 whitewash against Empoli before scoring a penalty at San Siro vs Inter.

A revised list of players called upon international duties was then released by Spalletti. Italy seek to make amends in Group C when they get back into action, as they sit in 7 points, level on points with Ukraine and North Macedonia, and six behind group leaders England.
