Spinazzola All Set to Become a New Napoli Player

Napoli have struck a deal with Leonardo Spinazzola, who left Roma as a free agent a few days ago. The signing will be announced in a matter of days. The veteran defender will sign a two-year contract. He’ll make €3M plus add-ons, mostly based on how much he plays, Sky informs.

The fullback moved to the Giallorossi from in 2019 in a partial swap. He has collected 151 appearances, scoring 7 goals and providing 21 assists. Despite some routine muscular injuries, he features 36 times in the most recent campaigns.

Thanks to the addition of Spinazzola, Napoli will be able to cash in on Mario Rui, who has some Portuguese suitors, or alternatively use Mathias Olivera as braccetto, depending on how their other negotiations go. Antonio Conte already wanted the Italian wingback at Inter. However, the transfer collapsed due to issues with his medicals.

After an inference by Inter, the Partenopei reprised negotiating with the agent of Alessandro Buongiorno. The sticking point is a release clause that would come into effect a few years down the line. Instead, there’s a €1/1.5M gap between their offer and the salary requested by Mario Hermoso, Tuttomercatoweb informs.

Our Take on Napoli and Spinazzola

He’s no longer the force down the flank he used to be, but he’s a perfectly fine deputy at this stage of his career, especially in a 3-5-2 or something similar and spending zilch to add him. Roma are going younger and won’t pull their hair out if they find somebody decent and healthier.
