It took an extra day to sort out the bureaucracy, but Sampdoria have indeed hired Dejan Stankovic to succeed Marco Giampaolo on the bench.

Stankovic Hands Sampdoria Resignation After 5-0 Loss to Fiorentina

Sampdoria coach Dejan Stankovic has been thrust into the limelight following a 5-0 thumping at the hands of Fiorentina at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. The former Inter midfielder reportedly submitted his resignation shortly after the crushing defeat, which marks a 21st loss this league season and all but confirms the Blucerchiati’s relegation to Serie B.

As per Calciomercato, Stankovic spoke to his players first, announcing his desire to leave the club, before confronting the club management, who are still unsure whether to accept the tactician’s resignation. They instead want him to fulfill his contract, which expires at the end of the season, in June 2023.

The club’s training session this morning was postponed as well due to the current events that have come into light. There were indications that it would happen after the manager delayed to present himself at the post-match press conference following the defeat yesterday.

More developments are expected to emerge by tonight, as Sampdoria find themselves in an extremely precarious situation across all fronts, especially with their debts mounting.

Club patron Massimo Ferrero is currently the one under fire. It is presumed that fans are furious for his actions of running down the club’s finances and refusal to sell the club to potential owners who might save it from disastrous consequences.
