Scott McTominay has quickly grown to become one of the protagonists at Napoli despite joining the club less than a month ago. The Italian giants purchased the Scotland international from Manchester United for a reported fee of £25.7 million only 24 hours before the deadline.
It has proved a massive signing thus far, even though McTominay made his first Serie A start only last weekend. The 27-year-old delivered an energetic performance on his debut to help Napoli hold Juventus to a scoreless draw at the Allianz Stadium.
McTominay is still adapting to life at Napoli. But he’s already excited about this new adventure.
“I’m proud to play here,” he told the club’s official channels, as reported by Gianluca Di Marzio. “When I heard about Napoli’s interest, I felt the fire inside me. I wanted to come here and push as much as possible because the fans are crazy, I’d say they’re among the best fans I’ve ever seen.
“Incredible. I can’t speak highly enough about the fans, the people, the city, and the welcome I’ve received from my teammates and coaches.”
The Scottish midfielder also discussed Antonio Conte’s role in his decision to join Napoli.
“When a coach of his caliber wants to bring you into his team, it fills you with confidence and a desire to show him that you can give him a lot,” the new Napoli star stated. “The conversations we’ve had between us have all been very positive.
“He is very demanding, which is very, very positive for a player of my age. I’m 27 now, I’m not a kid anymore, but I’m not old either.”
