Milan coach Stefano Pioli has revealed some disappointing news regarding the return of Mike Maignan, who had earlier said he wished to return to playing ways against Monza in the Rossoneri’s next match. The ex-Lille shotstopper suffered a calf injury in France’s 2-0 win over Austria at the end of September, and his bruise is now understood to be much worse than previously thought after he hurt himself once more during recovery.
Speaking in Milan’s pre-match press conference (via MilanNews) ahead of the Monza clash, Pioli disclosed the Frenchman hurt another muscle during recovery training.
“We’re sorry for Mike’s injury, he was doing everything to get back. He pushed to play first, we made the things are at his best, but unfortunately, he has hurt another muscle.”
The concurrent injury is set to rule out Maignan until the new year, with chances of appearing at the World Cup none to slim
“Unfortunately I know he will have to stay out until January,” said Pioli.
36-year-old Romanian goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu has replaced Maignan between the posts for now.
Milan host Monza at San Siro on Saturday evening, as they seek to play keep-up with league leaders Napoli and second-placed Atalanta, who face Roma and Lazio respectively over the weekend.
