Struggling Milan Winger Might Be Put on Sale in January

Samuel Chukwueze had a promising preseason but didn’t confirm his improvements once Serie A started. He’s been quickly tossed to the side after getting a pair of starts early. Paulo Fonseca has preferred fielding Tammy Abraham and Alvaro Morata together rather than Christian Pulisic as a no.10 as he had done in some friendlies.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via Fantacalcio), a January departure of the Nigerian speedster can’t be ruled out. He’s under contract long-term, until 2028, but his valuation risks plummeting if he doesn’t turn things around.

Milan invested €20M to sign Chukwueze from Villarreal last year. He hasn’t been able to become a credible competitor for Rafael Leao and Pulisic during his time at San Siro. He’s also often been hampered by muscular problems. He has posted 3 goals and 3 assists in 40 total appearances.

Atletico Madrid, West Ham, and Aston Villa are keeping an eye on the attacker in case he becomes available. A transfer to Saudi Arabia could also emerge as a possibility, SoccerNet reports (via Calciomercato).

The preseason is all too often deceiving, and he didn’t seize his early opportunities when the tactic was fluid and Leao was in a funk. He’s not been an asset, but cutting bait early would be a drastic measure. It depends on the amount of the fees and how they’d replace him. Given his skill-set, he has everything to be a great weapon off the bench at the bare minimum, but he hasn’t completed that mental switch yet.
