Subdued Atmosphere Expected at Napoli After Scudetto Downfall

Empoli effectively eliminated Napoli out of the Scudetto title race with a 3-2 victory, by virtue of Inter loanee Andrea Pinamonti bagging a late brace to hand the Partenopei their third winless game on the trot.

As per La Repubblica, Napoli fans will reportedly boycott the game against Sassuolo, albeit not entirely, to protest against the manner in which the club has fallen since the beginning of the calendar year. The southerners take on the Neroverdi at the weekend and with less than three days remaining, only 3,000 odd tickets have reportedly been sold (via TuttoNapoli).

The Italian news outlet calls it “a symptom of great disappointment for the Azzurri’s performances” .

Having collected just one point in the last three matches, Napoli have waved goodbye to the hopes of bagging a first Scudetto title since the days of Diego Maradona in 1989/90.

The club now sit in third place with 67 points after 34 games, five points behind Inter and seven off league leaders Milan at the top of the table.
