Juventus and Aston Villa are making headway in the deal that could see Douglas Luiz transfer to Turin. The two sides are getting close, but the operation has several moving parts. The Birmingham-based club needs to complete some sales before June 30th to comply with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules.
Per Sky, they asked to include Samuel Iling-Junior in the package on top of Weston McKennie, plus €18/20M. The Bianconeri would like to reduce the monetary portion.
Juventus showed considerable interest in Douglas Luiz once it became manifest that he could indeed depart Aston Villa. However, the initial request by his side and the gap with McKennie’s valuation were too large. That would be significantly reduced by the English winger also switching sides.
The contract of Iling-Junior expires in 2025, like the one of the USMNT’s representative. The extension talks have had very little traction in the last few months. It’s interesting that trades involving players are back on the table for the Old Lady after the whole ‘plusvalenze’ ordeal. Unless they have sizeable bids for their two players in their pocket, they shouldn’t hesitate. The trade would take two issues off their plate and fetch them a quality contributor that would have been out of reach otherwise. Since his wages wouldn’t be low, it’d be interesting to see how such an acquisition would potentially impact their attempt to keep Adrien Rabiot, or if the two things are already directly correlated.
