The Arsenal midfielder lost the battle in the middle of the park from the get-go. His teammates resorted to him as a source of inspiration, but he just couldn’t pick up the pace of his side.

The former Atalanta man ran hard for as long as he lasted on the pitch and never shied away from a duel. But the quality wasn’t always there.

A forgettable outing from the winger who never managed to get past Diego Dalot on the left wing.
Xherdan Shaqiri – 5
The former Inter man threatened Portugal with a freekick early in the match, and it turned out to be the lone highlight from a vastly disappointing evening for the man who’s long been the difference maker for Switzerland.
Breel Embolo – 5
The Monaco striker was frustrated by Ruben Dias’ rough treatment from the get-go. Never managed to find his footing or make an impact inside the penalty box.
