Despite a brilliant season with Inter and heavily contributing to Argentina’s Copa America triumph, Lautaro Martinez didn’t crack the top five in the Balloon d’Or chart. He finished 7th behind surprise winner Rodri, who pipped Vinicius Junior at the post.

Lautaro Martinez is in contention for the Balloon d’Or and has important backers. He weighed in on the prestigious award after scoring in a six-nil romp of Bolivia with Argentina: "I think I belong and I’m happy and hopeful ahead of it."
