Alexis Sanchez and Inter have officially parted ways, the club confirmed via an official statement. The Chile international has finally left the Nerazzurri and joined Marseille.
Between the end of the 1980s and the beginning of 1990s, Arrigo Sacchi’s Milan had basically no rivals in Europe. The Rossoneri had won back-to-back European Cup titles in 1988/89 and 1989/90 and were on their way to collect a third one. If it weren’t for a quasi-unknown team from the south of France: Olympique de Marseille.
Roma left for Israel, where they will face Tottenham, leaving a few men behind due to injuries and transfer market-related reasons, fueling the chatter about some departures. The most notable ones were Veretout, Carles Perez and Shomurodov.
Inter want to offload veteran striker Alexis Sanchez who is taking up a huge chunk of the club’s wages despite not being a starter. Napoli are the most recent club to inquire, behind Marseille and Villarreal that have already lodged offers.
Veretout is currently not in José Mourinho’s plans for the 2022/23 season, and prefers a move to Milan rather than back to his homeland with French giants Marseille. The Ligue 1 side is after him but he is keen on staying in Serie A.
Tiemoue Bakayoko re-joined Milan on a two-year loan deal last summer, but he seems on the cusp of cutting short his stay at San Siro. According to French publication Foot Mercato, Marseille and Chelsea have found an agreement over the midfielder's return to Ligue 1.
The exit of Alexis Sanchez probably will not be enough for Inter to sign Paulo Dybala, as they need either Edin Dzeko or Joaquin Correa to depart over a combination of technical and financial reasons. The bids have been lacking so far.
Napoli legend Dries Mertens has left the club as a free agent after nine fruitful years and has recently been touted for a move to Marseille, as his agents are in town to negotiate. However, there are conflicting reports on the matter.
Mertens is one of the two big names to leave Napoli as a free agent at the end of the season, and new Marseille coach Igor Tudor has the Belgian icon in his crosshairs for a bosman deal.
The departure of highly-rated French starlet Boubacar Kamara has opened up a channel for Marseille to aim for a direct replacement, and three Roma players are in the radar - Jordan Veretout, Amadou Diawara and Justin Kluivert.
Italian champions Milan have emerged in pole position for Marcelo, who ends his glittering Real Madrid stint as their most decorated player in history. He has the sights of several clubs on him, including Marseille and Real Valladolid.
Roma plot to further strengthen their midfield after bringing in Nemanja Matic. The negotiation with Sassuolo for Davide Frattesi is progressing, but they will not stop there, considering that they will likely let both Jordan Veretout and Sergio Oliveira go.
