Talks Between Lazio and Milinkovic-Savic Keep Stalling

Lazio and Mateja Kezman, the agent of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, have been in touch lately, but they have made little progress on an extension. His current contract expires in 2024. The Biancocelesti aren’t considering a January sale, but their hand will be forced in the summer sans an agreement.

According to Il Messaggero, while the parties could come to terms on his new wages, €5M, they are on polar terms on the release clause. His representative insists on a relatively low one, around €40M. The club wants to set it at €70M. President Claudio Lotito often stated that his price tag is €100M.

Milinkovic-Savic doesn’t want to leave on a free not to hurt Lazio. A summer departure is the most likely scenario, whether a deal is struck or not. Juventus have long been linked to the Serbian ace. Arsenal have been keenly monitoring him as well, Corriere dello Sport relays (via Radiosei).

The Gunners targeted him in the past window. However, he turned them down because he was looking for a side that participated in the Champions League. They are currently top of the league. If they kept it up in the second half of the season, they’d be a realistic landing spot.

Our Take on Milinkovic-Savic and Lazio

After a decorated spell with the Biancocelesti, the time seems to have finally come for him to depart. The hints have been too frequent. It’d be stunning if it happened in January, though. It’s more of a matter of where he’ll go and how much he’ll cost rather than when. Juventus seemed in pole position, but the recent links to a great alternative like Alexis Mac Allister might not be fortuitous.
