Tammy Abraham Reveals Chelsea Teammates Behind Roma Motivation

Roma unveiled their most recent signing Tammy Abraham, on Tuesday morning. The Chelsea youth product signed a five-year deal with the Giallorossi and ended his 15+ years of association with the London club.

The 23-year-old has now revealed what, or rather who motivated him to join the capital club, other than coach Jose Mourinho and sporting director Tiago Pinto.

Speaking to the official club channel, Abraham pointed out two Chelsea teammates who were key in pursuing the striker to continue his career in Serie A with Roma.

He said: “Rudiger and Emerson loved everything (about this club), especially Toni. He told me he would always play for Roma again. Hearing it gave me confidence. As I said, I felt good from day one, I just have to do my best this season and help the team as much as possible.

Adding further, he commented: “You can sense when a club really wants you – and Roma made their interest clear immediately. It’s a massive honour to be the No.9 at this club.”

Antonio Rudiger and Emerson Palmieri spent one and three seasons at Roma respectively.

Abraham finished last season as Chelsea’s top scorer, even though he did not take part in Thomas Tuchel’s plans as the German coach took over reigns from Frank Lampard mid-season.

The England U23 international will team up with Eldor Shumurodov upfront as the Giallorossi look  to kick start their 2021/22 season without Edin Dzeko, who left for Inter.
