Teammate of Zirkzee Confirms Impasse over Milan Move

The negotiation between the entourage of Joshua Zirkzee and Milan has seemingly been put on ice during Euro 2024. His Bologna teammate Santiago Castro corroborated such a notion in an interview with Radio Velez 670 (via Corriere dello Sport).

“He surprises me every day. He’s really complete: he likes to play the ball, he’s powerful, he’s a champion but also humble. We talk a lot, and I’m happy for what he has accomplished.”

“As far as I know, Zirkzee and Milan haven’t sealed the deal. If Bologna signed another striker, I’d have to continue working hard to earn minutes. Qualifying for the Champions League led to a riot in the city. I joined mid season. The team had reached a very good level, and the veterans and the coach convinced me to take it game after game and not focus on our ultimate goal. I learned that the more you dwell on it, the worse it is.”

According to Fabrizio Romano and Mattia Moretto (via SOSFanta), Manchester United gathered intel about the conditions to sign the Dutchman too. At this stage, they haven’t gone past that. His release clause comes into effect from the start of July and is valid until August.

When the Red Devils scouted Zirkzee and spoke with his camp, they got the sense his priority was to transfer to Milan. The choice would be up to the player if both outfits reached a complete agreement to onboard him. The Rossoneri continue to try to lower the commissions asked by agent Kia Joorabchian, but it’s also a matter of ethics and principles for them.

  1. It’s good they are standing their ground. Crazy agent will end up causing problems for clubs in the future. If Milan don’t get him, they’ll get someone else; football goes on. I only hope he doesn’t end up where he won’t fit in.
