Tension Rising Between Lazio Bigwigs Lotito and Tare

Lazio president Claudio Lotito and sporting director Igli Tare were seen arguing during the recent unveiling of their new jerseys. The club issued a statement denying any problem within the front office even though their skirmish was public.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the issues stem from a recent hiring and the lagging transfer market. The Biancocelesti have appointed former Salernitana executive Angelo Fabiani. Officially, he will handle the women’s and the youth teams.

Having just one year on his contract, Tare suspects the owner to have already put a succession plan in place. In the meantime, the capital side has not been able to land its primary targets, especially in the back.

Mario Gila has arrived in Italy to take the medicals, Sky informs. He will join on a permanent move from Real Madrid for €6M. He projects to be a backup, while Maurizio Sarri wants Nicolò Casale and Alessio Romagnoli as the new starting pair. They are the frontrunners for the former, but Monza have not given up and raised their contractual offer, Gianluca Di Marzio reports. The former Milan captain will not wait much longer. He has received a lucrative proposal from Fulham, Alfredo Pedullà informs. The Biancocelesti also need two new goalkeepers.

Our Take on Lazio, Lotito and Tare

The director has pulled off brilliant coups in the past, first and foremost Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Luis Alberto, but the last few windows have been challenging. They have had trouble getting rid of excess players and had expensive misses. The Albanian executive has been routinely linked to top teams, but that ship might have sailed. With a replacement already in-house, although not a particularly high-profile one, it would not be stunning if things escalated quickly. Although the timing would be disastrous.
