Another dramatic and tense weekend in Serie A is over and has given us some fascinating results.

As in the previous round, the biggest surprise of Matchday 11 involved the 36-time Scudetto winners Juventus, who suffered their fourth defeat of the season with a 2-1 loss to Verona. Napoli and Milan, on the other hand, continue their remarkable starts to the season, as they both defeated their respective opponents over the weekend to remain unbeaten.

Goalkeeper – Sergio Romero (Venezia)

Venezia are the lowest scoring team in Serie A this season with eight goals, but the newly promoted side compensate for their lack of goalscoring prowess with a respectable defensive record.

The club’s goalkeeper, Sergio Romero, played a big part in keeping Genoa goalless on Sunday, which was the team’s second clean sheet of the season. The Argentine made 4 saves, which accumulated a total of 0.84 Expected Goals Conceded (xGC).

Torino have made a fairly good start to this Serie A campaign, considering how poorly they fared last season. They defeated Sampdoria 3-0 on the weekend and kept their third clean sheet of the season.

Center-back Gleison Bremer has been one of the standout performers for Torino so far this season. The Brazilian provided an assist against Sampdoria, setting up Andrea Belotti’s goal. On top of that, Bremer made 3 interceptions and recovered the ball 8 times.

Left Center-Back – Alessandro Bastoni (Inter)

Inter’s backline has received much praise over the last few seasons, with Alessandro Bastoni an integral part on the left side of the back three.

The young Italian put in another impressive performance in the 2-0 win over Udinese, registering his first assist of the season. Adding to that, Bastoni completed 92% of his pass attempts (95/103) and won 5 duels.

Left-Back / Left Wing-Back – Domenico Criscito (Genoa)

It took 11 games for Genoa to finally register their first clean sheet of the season. Left-back Domenico Criscito was part of the backline that kept things tight at the back and earned a place on the list.

The 34-year-old veteran neither scored nor assisted, but he was a real rock in Genoa’s backline and put in some impressive numbers. Against Venezia, Criscito won 8 duels, succeeded in 3 out of 4 tackle attempts and made a remarkable 13 ball recoveries.

Defensive Midfielder – Andre Zambo Anguissa (Napoli)

Napoli continue their exceptional start to the season, having conceded just 3 goals after 11 games. Luciano Spalletti’s men kept another clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Salernitana on the weekend.

Cameroon international Andre Zambo Anguissa was a solid presence in Napoli’s midfield in this game, winning an outstanding 14 duels, recovering the ball 8 times and was successful in 3 out of 5 attempted tackles. The midfielder also made 2 key passes.

Central Attacking Midfielder – Piotr Zielinski (Napoli)

Napoli’s exceptional start to the season would not have been possible without many of their players raising their performance levels.

Piotr Zielinski is one of many Napoli players who have stepped up his game this season. The Polish international scored the only goal in the 1-0 win over Salernitana and also set-up 1 big scoring chance.

Torino’s second representative on the list is Dennis Praet. The Belgium international was outstanding in the 3-0 win over Sampdoria, earning one of the highest ratings in Round 11.

Verona can already be considered the giant killer as they have already beaten teams like Roma, Lazio and now Juventus this Serie A season. One player who has played a big part in these emphatic victories is Argentine centre forward Giovanni Simeone.

The 26-year-old scored twice in the 2-1 win over Juventus, increasing his season goal tally to 8. Even more impressive is Simeone’s ability to convert chances of relatively low xG value. On this occasion, the Argentine scored 2 goals from 0.56 xG.

Striker – Joaquin Correa (Inter)

After winning the Scudetto last season and the departure of Romelu Lukaku in the summer, Inter needed to make some reinforcements to their squad to remain competitive and challenge for the league title again.

Striker Joaquin Correa was one of Inter’s key summer additions and the 27-year-old Argentine is gradually starting to prove his worth. Correa netted two goals against Udinese in the span of ten minutes, to take his tally to 4 goals this season.

Striker – Dusan Vlahovic (Fiorentina)

Fiorentina have started the season in good form and are currently level on points with sixth-placed Lazio after 11 games. One player they can rely on is Dusan Vlahovic, and the Serbian striker keeps delivering top level performances.

Against Spezia, Vlahovic netted his first hat-trick of the season at an xG of 1.16. The Fiorentina striker has now scored 8 goals and is second on the Serie A scoring charts.
