The Plot Thickens on Roma and Juventus Pursuit of Zakaria

Both Roma and Juventus have identified Denis Zakaria as a prospective quality addition to their midfield. But they are not alone in that regard. The Borussia Moenchengladbach director recently opened to the possibility of selling him in January. The 25-year-old is on an expiring contract.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma were in advanced talks on personal terms a few weeks back. They wanted to leverage that with the German club, acquiring him at a discount price in early 2022. However, Zakaria then switched his representatives and upped his demands, also due to the increased interest in him. The Giallorossi have not given up, though. They have zeroed in on him and have yet to seriously take into consideration different options.

The Swiss international has also risen through their list of Juventus targets for the role. Both the management and Massimiliano Allegri are high on him. Borussia Dortmund, helmed by his former coach Marco Rose, are tracking him Zakaria too, the transfer market expert reports.

Borussia Moenchengladbach are still holding out hope on an extension, but they have slim chances to be successful. The player is tempted to transfer, especially considering the caliber of teams chasing after him. The Italian sides were particularly keen on him due to the potential low costs of the deal. However, the competition and the requests by his team and camp will likely make the price balloon. On top of rich wages, it will be necessary to win Zakaria over by offering an important technical project, Di Marzio concludes.
