The Three Players Milan Should Sign This Summer

Milan’s transfer market has taken flight in the past few days, signing Euro winner Alvaro Morata, who they hope will replace outgoing Olivier Giroud, along with defenders Alex Jimenez and Strahinja Pavlovic. Smart business from the Rossoneri who had to replace Simon Kjær. Having finished second to city rivals Inter last season Milan are in need of reinforcements to help challenge for the title again and kick-start new manager Paolo Fonseca’s era at the San Siro.

With that in mind here are three players Fonseca’s Milan should look to sign over the last few weeks of the Calciomercato:

Emerson Royal

At the time of writing the 25 year old Brazilian is inching ever closer to signing a contract with Milan. Ange Postecoglu is clearing out his squad ahead of the new season and has decided Emerson is surplus to requirements.

Although he has only started five games in all competitions since the turn of the year the ex- Barcelona man fits the bill of a young right back with proven quality at a high level that can help fill the gap left by Alessandro Florenzi’s horrific knee injury. Well able to put in a tackle and provide solidity there is little doubt he could slot right in.

A solid option at the back is exactly what Milan need as they try to build a dependable back four after conceding 49 goals last season. Some would point out his lack of quality going forward, not registering a single assist last year.

This could be worrying and Spurs fans tendency to scrutinise any mistakes has given him a rather unfair reputation. All in all however Royal’s fantastic work ethic and willingness to improve should make him a useful asset on the right hand of Fonseca’s defence for around 15 million euro

Armando Broja

As above Milan have brought in Morata already but as it stands they are still quite thin on the ground in terms of strikers. Rumours about Broja swapping Chelsea for the Diavolo have been flying for months at this stage. Reaching their peak when the Albanian centre forward was representing his national team at the Euros. Although he failed to impress in Germany Broja is still regarded as an exciting young striker that could add a different dimension to the Rossoneri.

Tearing his cruciate ligament kept the 22 year old out for much of the 2022/23 campaign and Chelsea sent him out on loan to Fulham in January to rediscover some form. While he did not hit the ground running Broja’s style of play is what really makes him a useful attacker. Never afraid to take on a man with a quick burst of pace and able to score with phenomenal technique for such a young player there is no doubt he would score goals for Milan if used correctly.

Juventus are also said to be keeping tabs on the Chelsea man as a potential vice-Vlahovic so Milan best move quickly if they want Broja to ink his name on a contract. The top brass will most likely need to fork out an amount in the region of €20 million for the striker born in 2001.

Youssouf Fofana

In a great example of how quickly things can change in the market Milan’s massive interest in the Monaco midfielder seems to have been extinguished somewhat. By no means is the deal dead in the water however and there is plenty of time to talk the Rouge et Blancs around to the idea. The dynamic Frenchman can play in the centre or on the right of midfield. Four goals and four assists last year in the Principality do not tell the full story about a useful player who could provide competition for Ismael Bennaccer amd Christian Pulisic.

The depth needed to compete on all three fronts is essential for the new manager to hit the ground running and impress the demanding supporters. Fofana is the classic box to box midfielder Milan have missed since Franck Kessie departed. His willingness to press and physical strength would help strengthen a side who need to be tough to play through this year if they’re to keep any pace with Inter and Juve. The biggest roadblock is the steep asking price of €35 million.

Any one of these exciting players would revitalise a Milan side in need of a shake-up. If any of them will be hopping on a plane to Malpensa any time soon however is a different story.
