Serie A title hopefuls Juventus failed to maintain their 100% start to the new league season as Roma held them to a 0-0 draw in Turin. Despite entering the match as favorites, Thiago Motta’s men delivered an underwhelming performance against the out-of-sorts Giallorossi.
After two consecutive 3-0 wins at the start of Motta’s reign, Juventus hoped to open the new Serie A campaign with three straight wins. However, the record-time Italian champions mustered just one shot on target in an evenly contested fixture at the Allianz Stadium.
Nicolas Gonzalez, Francisco Conceicao, and Teun Koopmeiners joined the fray in the second half but could help Juventus break the deadlock. A lack of clear-cut chances on either side of the pitch inevitably led to one of the most boring Serie A games of 2024/25.
Motta conceded Juventus deserved a point in the post-match conference.
“It was an evenly matched game. I think the result is fair,” the Juventus boss said, as relayed by Gianluca Di Marzio. “I liked the whole team, both those who started and those who came on. Certainly, we can improve on precision, and it’s not just Dusan who needs to do that.“
With September’s international break on the horizon, Motta will have additional time to work on his tactics after a raft of late summer arrivals. Juventus will travel to Tuscany to lock horns with Empoli when Serie A returns to action in a fortnight, looking to get back to winning ways.
