Juventus manager Thiago Motta has confirmed the club’s decision to put standout winger Federico Chiesa up for sale. Motta omitted the Italy international from his squad for Saturday’s exhibition match against Brest as the Italian powerhouse drew 2-2 at the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara.
In addition to Chiesa, Juventus have placed Tiago Djalo and Hans Nicolussi Caviglia on the chopping block amid Motta’s effort to overhaul his squad. The former Bologna coach left all three players out of the team on Saturday night, suggesting the Turin giants are no longer counting on them.
If there was a doubt, Motta removed it in a post-match interview. He announced the decision to sell Chiesa as Juventus turn to Fiorentina talisman Nicolas Gonzalez to address the flank.
“Chiesa is out for transfer reasons, the same as the others who were left behind, other than Fabio Miretti, who is injured,” the Juventus boss said, as relayed by Gianluca Di Marzio. “We have been very clear with them.
“They are talented but must find other options where they will get more playing time. For Chiesa and the others, the decision has been made.“
With Chiesa set to leave, Juventus could reignite their interest in Borussia Dortmund starlet Karim Adeyemi. After being blown out of the water by the German club’s demands, they switched their attention to Gonzalez.
But Chiesa’s departure would likely armor Juventus with enough cash to reopen talks with Dortmund for Adeyemi. The 22-year-old has already agreed to join Motta’s charges on a multi-year contract.
