Thiago Motta Set to Face Mentor Mourinho Ahead of Roma Clash

Following two consecutive losses to the likes of Fiorentina and Bologna, Spezia are set to face Roma at the Stadio Alberto Picco on Sunday evening , where the former Inter midfielder will clash against his mentor Mourinho.

The “Special One” played a pivotal role in Motta’s playing career as it was he the one who has lured him with the Nerazzurri during the 2009-2010 campaign, where Inter ran riot as they became the first ever Italian side to have won the almighty treble.

Prior to the fixture, the former Inter regista spoke to the media about his side’s huge match against the Giallorossi:

“The important thing is to maintain the continuity of hard work shown in the last few games. You can see that in the opening moments to the Bologna match. Now we’re about to face Roma, an important team, built to play on the European stage. We have a different objectives, we play at home and we will play this game with great focus. We will try to bring the three points home.

“We have to pay attention to Rome. All of Mourinho’s teams are teams that know how to suffer together and then counter and if necessary, make a comeback. They are dangerous on the counter, when they have to defend they do it well, even inside the area, and then they are good at restarting the play. We have to stay balanced and play sharp football, trying to minimize their counter-attacks.”

As it stands, Spezia is currently slightly above rigorous waters as they sit in 16th place with 26th points, only four points away from the relegation zone. After two unfortunate results, Motta hopes that his men can gain all three points in a crucial fixture against Mourinho’s men in order to keep them within the Serie A next season.
