Three Things We Learned from the Coppa Italia Final

This year’s edition of the Coppa Italia Final was far from a disappointment as it was Inter who prevailed in an enticing 4-2 victory over their bitter-rivals Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico.

Despite Nicoló Barella’s stunning opener to hand the Nerazzurri the lead, the Old Lady kept their cool. Serbian international Dusan Vlahovic rose from the ashes after undergoing an upsetting stint of bad form to score a brace within two minutes within the second half to give the Bianconeri a significant advantage.

However, Allegri’s men collapsed defensively as the Italian tactician’s back-line handed Inter a late penalty, which Hakan Calhanoglu converted into a goal to make the fixture level and push the cup Final into extra time.

In the end, Croatian wing-back Ivan Perisic soared through the pitch as he inspired a Nerazzurri victory by scoring a brace within three minutes, handing La Benemata their first Coppa Italia since 2011.

Following the thrilling Derby D’Italia edition of the domestic cup Final, here are three things we have grasped throughout the game:

Inter Must Renew Ivan Perisic

The Croatian wing-back has proven yet again how much a fundamental role he plays for the Nerazzurri. The 33 year-old was brilliant as he dominated the flanks through his fine-tuned dribbling and his ability to use both feet on the ball very efficiently.

In addition, Perisic’s work rate defensively was phenomenal as he relentlessly tracked back, causing a handful of trouble for Juan Cuadrado on the right-hand side.

The Croatian winger was stellar as he kept his cool when stepping up to the penalty shot and managed to fire a quick release into the top corner of the goal from a long way out in order to double the Beneamata’s advantage.

With Perisic’s contract set to expire after this year’s current campaign, there is no doubt that Inter must renew the Croatian veteran as he maintained a magnificent consistent run throughout the entirety of the season, scoring nine goals and providing eight assists across all competitions for the Nerazzurri.

Dusan Vlahovic Belongs at Juventus

Despite having a slow start to the life of a Bianconeri, the 22 year-old had a fine performance this evening against Inter, proving that he does belong within Allegri’s side.

The promising striker caused the Nerazzurri defense a mayhem of trouble through his flawless technique on the ball and his exceptional positioning off the ball.

Although the clinical goalscorer has only managed to score six goals in 13 appearances for the Old Lady since arriving from Fiorentina in January, he demonstrated his incredible talent as he rose to the occasion against one of the Serie A giants, scoring a brace within two minutes that ignited a glimpse of hope.

The timing of the run within the blind-spot of the defense and the exquisite ferocity and technique displayed within the turn towards the inside of the box that left Danilo D’ambrosio dazed demonstrates an immense amount of promise for Vlahovic ahead of next year’s campaign.

Allegri’s Return to Juventus Was a Fatal Error

The unanticipated return of Allegri within the Juventus’ at the beginning of the season for the first time since being relieved from his duties after his disastrous 2018/19 campaign was a fatal error from the board.

Throughout the course of the season, Allegri has failed to instill a tactical system that compliments his squad, causing him to trail behind within the Serie A. The Italian tactician has been incapable of getting the best out of his players, resulting in the Bianconeri ending off the  campaign with no silverware for the first time in eleven years.

Despite approaching the fixture with a more defensive style of play, the Old Lady have crumbled to the Nerazzurri yet again as they have failed to cope with Inter’s fast-paced attacking style within the offensive zone.

With Allegri failing to bring any sort of trophies to Turin upon his return, it is very likely that his future with the Old Lady is filled with a great deal of doubt as the board could possibly explore the option of finding a new coach to take the club by the horns.
