Three Top Serie A Teams and PSG Keeping Tabs on Papu Gomez

After the exclusion from the squad list for Sunday’s clash with Roma, which was seconded by the front office, Alejandro Gomez is poised to leave Atalanta in January and few top teams, including Milan, Inter, Roma and PSG are monitoring the situation, Gazzetta dello Sport’s transfer market expert Claudio Laudisa reported today. However, first the player will have to come to agree a way out with his club, as the two sides have different ideas about what route to take.

The 32-Argentinian international expects to be let go for free given his massive contribution over the years and the fact that he turned down multiple rich offers to stay in the past. On the other hand, the management intends to ask for €10M to the suitors since his contract expires in 2023 and he earns €2.5M per year. The forward would prefer to continue living in Bergamo, which gives Milan and Inter a leg-up over the competition. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini stated after the Roma romp that he is no longer involved in the situation and that the issue is now between the player and the owner.

Our view

Things have come to a head at Atalanta and Gomez’s departure seems inevitable at this point, however it is unlikely teams will shell out that type of money for him, considering his age and the fact that he would not have as big of a role at his new destination.
