Top 5 Goals of Serie A Round 23: Badelj Equalizes in Added Time

After 22 goals in Round 22, Serie A sides upped the tempo with 27 strikes in Round 23. These goals made for exciting matches resulting in plenty of ups and downs in the points table.

Inter claimed the bragging rights in the Derby della Madonnina and in the process claimed pole position in Serie A. Lautaro Martinez scored a brace but it was the individual brilliance of Romelu Lukaku that stood out.

Elsewhere, Atalanta stunned Napoli in Bergamo while Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus continued their march.  Whereas, Lazio continued their march on Serie A with a win courtesy of Luiz Alberto.

Genoa and Parma played 2-2 draws at home to Hellas Verona and Udinese, respectively. Parma’s late comeback gave fans some home. Meanwhile, Torino’s 0-1 win over Cagliari led to Eusebio Di Francesco’s axing by the Islanders.

With clutch wins, every goal counted, and their importance increases with every passing match day. Here is our pick of top 5 goals from Serie A Round 23.

Dusan Vlahovic vs. Spezia

Fiorentina came into the fixture after suffering back-to-back defeats against Inter and Sampdoria. La Viola fired blanks in the first half but put their rivals to the sword in the second period. Dusan Vlahovic opened the floodgates, putting the ball into the net with his flying attempt after an intricate game play between Fiorentina players.

Luis Alberto vs. Sampdoria

Simone Inzaghi’s men struggled against Inter last week and were not at their best against La Samp. However, they had enough in the tank to stave off their rivals and hold on to a slim lead. Central defender Mateo Musacchio started the play to find Luis Alberto. But it was the linkup between the Spanish midfielder and Joaquin Correa that left the Sampdoria defense in disarray.

Luis Muriel vs. Napoli

Gennaro Gattuso’s men would have stayed quiet on the return journey after their humbling in Bergamo. There were six goals scored in the second half as Atalanta punished their rivals for every letup. Luis Muriel was the star of the show, creating and hitting the back of the net. They dispossessed a Napoli defender to take the ball, before wiggling past another and defeating Alex Meret on the near post.

Romelu Lukaku vs. Milan

Lautaro Martinez had already put the game beyond doubt before Romelu Lukaku’s heroics. The Belgian had sent a shot directly at Gianluigi Donnarumma earlier but would not make the same mistake again. It was all Lukaku in the 66th minute as he powered through the Milan defense alone. He picked his spot, the bottom left corner, and Donnarumma could not stop it from hitting the back of the net.

Milan Badelj vs. Hellas Verona

In the exciting 2-2 draw, Ivan Ilic opened the scoring with a thundering effort. However, Genoa would roar back into the game and in a memorable fashion. After the ball was cleared from the corner kick, it fell to Milan Badelj, who hit it on the bounce to equalize in the fourth minute of added time. The goal continued Genoa’s climb up the points table and increased their impressive unbeaten run to six games.
