The Top 5 Goals of Serie A Round 3: Lammers Bedazzles in Bergamo

It was another interesting weekend of football in the Italian top flight, with the sporting angle taking a back foot to the coronavirus scare. While Genoa’s match against Torino was postponed, Napoli’s trip to Juventus caused controversy with the Old Lady unwilling to play the fixture at a later date.

Nevertheless, there was plenty of action and they certainly did not disappoint. Atalanta and Sassuolo created plenty of headlines with the thrashings of Cagliari and Crotone, respectively. Elsewhere, there were exciting wins for Sampdoria and Milan, while Inter could only play a 1-1 draw with Lazio.

Compared to Round 2, the goals dried up relatively. There were only 23 goals, an average of roughly 3 per game. Not a bad haul but if you consider the 43 scored the previous weekend, the level fell down. Despite this, our job of rounding up the five best strikes of Round 3 was not easy. There were some excellent strikes that made us stand up from our sofas.

So, without further ado, here is our list of top five goals from Serie A Round 3:

Dusan Vlahovic vs Sampdoria

Fiorentina gave a a good account of themselves against Inter but failed to make anything of their possession against Sampdoria. La Viola were missing Franck Ribery’s magic and failed to carve out the Doria’s defence. It was Fabio Quagliarella’s ruled-off goal in the first half that showed the Serie A veteran forward’s genius but sadly it does not make our Top 5 goals list. But Dusan Vlahovic’s equalizer does. The Serbian forward expertly controlled a pass from Nikola Milenkovic before slotting the ball home.

Francesco Caputo vs Crotone

The Neroverdi easily secured the points on offer against Crotone. Sassuolo were the better side and deserved the points. For the second week in a row, Francesco Caputo was the hero of the night. With a comfortable one-goal lead, the forward combined with Domenico Berardi to evade the Crotone defense. Alex Cordaz was at the mercy of Caputo and he slayed him without mercy  to put the match beyond contention.

Pedro Rodriguez vs Udinese

Eden Dzeko should have broken the deadlock in the first half. Udinese should have definitely scored soon after the Bosnian’s chance but the Zebras exemplified a comedy of errors. In the second half, it was left to Pedro Rodriguez to open his Roma account in emphatic fashion. The Spaniard profited from a loose ball and his scorching shot from outside the box had no answer from Juan Musso.

Alejandro Gomez vs Cagliari

Atalanta continued to warn Serie A rivals of their intentions. La Dea hammered Cagliari in Round 3, sending five goals past Eusebio Di Francesco’s men. Luis Muriel again scored a brilliant goal but lost out to his captain in our list. Alejandro Gomez was at it again and scored a brilliant goal for the Bergamaschi outfit. Taking the ball from Duvan Zapata, Papu moved inside and sent another long distance effort that gave Atalanta the lead after Diego Godin had equalized for the Islanders.

Sam Lammers vs Cagliari

The game was truly in Atalanta’s control and the points in the bag when Sam Lammerrs produced his moment of magic. The summer arrival from PSV showed why Gian Piero Gasperini sanctioned his move. Lammers received the ball on the right side of the pitch and bedazzled Charalambos Lykogiannis with a series of step-overs. With the Greek defender behind him, Lammers sent a fierce shot at the goalkeeper to make it 5-2 and grab the first spot in our top 5 Serie A goals list for this week.
