Top Inter Star Finally Expected to Finalize Renewal

The first in-person meeting in a while between Inter and Alejandro Camano, the agent of Lautaro Martinez, went better than initially imagined. The star striker has de facto accepted the contract extension, lowering his requests, La Gazzetta dello Sport informed.

A final summit between the parties will iron out the bonuses and other formalities. It’ll be a matter of days. The Argentine will earn a €9M base salary until 2029. Without factoring in add-ons, he’ll get a €3M pay rise and add three years to his previous deal.

Lautaro Martinez was reportedly seeking €12M yearly but elected to end the saga a few days after Inter had an ownership change. Oaktree could eventually decide to lower the payroll. However, that won’t affect the renewals already in the works.

There won’t be a release clause. The striker and the side’s higher-ups never discussed such a possibility.  El Toro wanted to seal the deal before the start of the Copa America. Giuseppe Marotta stated he anticipated the signature arriving before the start of the pre-season camp.

Our Take on Inter and Lautaro Martinez

Their only pretty minor mistake was being so vocal and optimistic about it a few months ago, with no real rush given the expiration date and no certainties about their ownership situation. The fact that no team was concretely linked to him throughout the process suggests that the outcome was never particularly in doubt despite some natural ups and downs in the talks given the magnitude of the agreement.
