Top Three Serie A Transfer Rumors: Vlahovic, Milinkovic-Savic, Ramsey

As the January transfer window comes into full swing, we’ve already seen Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Axel Tuanzebe leave the Premier League to join Serie A sides on loan. However, are we in danger of seeing some of Serie A’s top stars leave? Here are the top three Serie A transfer rumors so far…

Dusan Vlahovic

Dusan Vlahovic is one of the brightest up and coming young stars in Serie A and has already been linked to a host of top clubs including Arsenal, Manchester City and Juventus. The Fiorentina forward has scored 16 goals in just 20 appearances in Serie A this season, currently leading the way in the goalscoring charts, and also equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s Serie A goalscoring record set in 2020 when he scored his 33rd goal of the calendar year in December 2021. Let’s not forget that the Serbian international is still just 21-years-old.

Arsenal have become one of the leading clubs to sign Vlahovic due to their uncertainty in the striker department. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future at the Emirates seems to be over, whilst both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s contracts expire at the end of the season. Arsenal could be Vlahovic’s best suitors, in terms of salary and transfer fee, as well as potentially offering Lucas Torreira as part of the deal.

With Vlahovic’s contract running out in June 2023 and the forward unwilling to sign a new deal to keep him at Fiorentina, the Viola are looking to cash in on their prized asset. However, there are rumours that Vlahovic does not see Arsenal as his preferred destination, likewise with Tottenham and Newcastle who had also been linked. News has circled that Juventus could be his preferred choice as he looks to continue his phenomenal Serie A goalscoring record, as well as Manchester City who are searching for a striker, and could turn to Vlahovic if they are unable to sign any of their other potential targets such as Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak or Harry Kane.

Expect this transfer saga to take a few twists and turns and if the forward does not leave this January, he will certainly be making a move over the summer.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has been one of Serie A’s most highly sought after stars for some time now with the Lazio midfielder being linked with a move away pretty much every transfer window. The latest rumors are that the Serbian could be making a potential switch to Old Trafford to join Manchester United as they look to bolster their midfield options.

We reported earlier this month that Milinkovic-Savic hinted that his time at Lazio could be coming to an end. There are currently two years left on his contract and the midfielder seems to be evaluating his options. However, it is unlikely that any other Italian sides could be able to afford his €70 million price tag, meaning that teams such as Manchester United and PSG could be the most likely destinations.

However, Milinkovic-Savic may not move until the summer as United still need to handle Paul Pogba’s contract situation that is nearing its end. The Lazio man could be the perfect replacement for Pogba, if the Frenchman is to leave Old Trafford.

Aaron Ramsey

One of the forgotten Serie A stars, Aaron Ramsey continues to be linked with a move away from Juventus this January. The Welshman has found life difficult in Turin since joining the club in 2019 on a free from Arsenal. Ramsey has made just 25 Serie A starts over two and a half seasons at Juve, including just one start in the league this season.

Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed that Ramsey is an ‘outgoing player’ and has once again struggled to keep fit during his time at the Old Lady, a problem that hindered him during his time as a Gunner.

Ramsey has been linked with a return to the Emirates but it seems unlikely that he makes a return. Other Premier League clubs such as Burnley, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, Everton and Leeds United have all been linked with a move for the midfielder. His wages are an issue, however, with him receiving a salary of over £400k-a-week when he first joined Juve. As a result, the new wealth at St. James’ Park sees Newcastle as potential suitors but Ramsey could take a potential pay cut or Juve could subsidize his wages to allow other clubs to come into play.
