Torino Face Turkish Competition for Former Atalanta Star

Torino will have to overcome stiff competition from Super Lig colossi Besiktas to offer Marseille’s Ruslan Malinovskyi a route back to Serie A. Per Santi Ouna’s latest report, the Turkish side won’t shy away from the challenge despite being informed of the player’s wish to move to Turin.

Only six months after leaving Atalanta for the riches of Ligue 1, Malinovskyi could return to the familiar surroundings. His brief career at the Stade Velodrome hasn’t gone according to plan. After two goals and one assist in 23 competitive appearances, Marseille will listen to offers for the Ukraine international.

Aware of the 30-year-old’s uncertain future in France, Torino had jumped at the head of the queue before being joined by Besiktas in a two-way race for the attacker’s services. Encouraged by the recent purchases of Ante Rebic and Daniel Amartey from Milan and Leicester City, respectively, the Turks are keen to add another star to their squad.

However, Malinovskyi prefers to reignite old flames and ply his trade in Serie A again. Before linking up with Marseille, he had spent almost four years at Atalanta, making 115 league appearances for La Dea. He played his best football in Italy, and Torino can offer him the same poison.

Despite only recently completing the acquisition of Adrien Tameze from Hellas Verona, Torino boss Ivan Juric feels one midfield addition won’t be enough to reinforce his side’s hopes of challenging higher up the table next season. That’s where Malinovskyi could come in.
