Torino Lose Interest in Former Atalanta & Inter Defender

Perennial Serie A strugglers Torino have reportedly grown tired of waiting for Robin Gosens’ response to their proposal. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Urbano Cairo is evaluating Atalanta’s Mitchell Bakker and Olympique Marseille’s Ulisses Garcia to strengthen the left-back position.

Torino must land a new left-back after long-serving stalwart Ricardo Rodriguez left the club on a free transfer at the end of last season. Union Berlin’s Gosens has emerged as Granata’s number one priority. However, the German’s hesitance to accept Torino’s offer has forced Cairo to consider other options in the market.

Despite finding a principal agreement with Union Berlin, Torino couldn’t come to terms with the former Atalanta and Inter star. Clearly frustrated with Gosens’ behavior, Cairo explained his decision to turn his back on the 30-year-old and turn to other targets.

It’s not that he said he is not ready to come, but he is thinking about it. When you think too long, it’s difficult to get things done. Once these things drag on, we have to proceed, the Torino president said.

There are two options for Torino. One is Garcia, who joined Marseille from Young Boys last January for only €4 million. But Bakker seems to be a more likely solution for the Granata.

Out of favor at Atalanta, Bakker is ready to leave Bergamo after just one season. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side paid Bayer Leverkusen €9.5m to bring the Dutchman to the Gewiss Stadium last summer. They could be open to letting him go on loan, which would be an ideal scenario for Torino.
