Torino Move on from Davide Nicola, Poach Ivan Juric from Hellas Verona

Torino have successfully managed to pry Ivan Juric away from Hellas Verona, putting under contract one of the best up-and-coming coaches in the Peninsula. Despite avoiding relegation, Davide Nicola was not retained past the expiration of his season-long contract.

Juric began his managerial career as an assistant for Gian Piero Gasperini and, as the boss, at Mantova in Lega Pro in 2014. He quickly made the jump to Serie B, at Crotone, and then to the top league, at Genoa. He struggled to find his footing with the Grifone, where he was fired three times in consecutive seasons.

He turned the corner at Verona, which he made his home in 2019. The Scaligeri easily avoided relegation in the past two campaigns despite having a budget inferior to their competitors. The gaffer contributed to the growth of now well-established Serie A contributors such as Sofyan Amrabat, Marash Kumbulla, Amir Rrahmani, Mattia Zaccagni, Federico Dimarco, and Matteo Lovato, on top of rehabbing the reputation of several players.

However, Juric often voiced his displeasure for the lack of ambition of the Gialloblù. He did not appreciate that he had to start from scratch last year as the transfer market gutted the squad. The same could happen in the upcoming window, also because of the several loans. He opted to embark on a new three-year project with the Granata, which will be hoping to get better results than when they unfruitfully tried to raise the bar by appointing Marco Giampaolo last year.
