Torino Overtake Bologna for Verona Wingback Doig

Former Hibernian wingback Josh Doig is the subject of a heightened transfer market tussle, as several Serie A sides eye to onboard his services this summer. Doig registered 21 appearances for the Gialloblu in 2022/23 despite being restricted game time due to recurring injuries.

Bologna were said to be leading the race to sign Doig, but a recent disclosure by Sky Italia indicates that Torino are now the frontrunners. The Granata reportedly expect to close negotiations with Verona by next week, leaving the likes of Bologna, Atalanta, Milan, Fiorentina, Lazio and Monza all lagging behind.

The Scotland U21 star carries a price tag of around the €6M mark – a figure Torino are willing to pay upright, in stark contrast to Bolgona, who have directed their attention elsewhere in recent weeks. Any hope of playing alongside Napoli-linked Lewis Ferguson at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara hangs in the balance.

As it stands, 21-year-old Doig is set to move to Turin. It is a transfer that will reward his former club Hibs with a significant sell-on fee, per the clause added during the transfer to Verona.
