Torino Set to Sign Ex-Southampton Striker on Free Transfer

Perennial Serie A underachievers Torino are on the cusp of completing their first major summer signing, with Che Adams one step away from a shock move to Italy. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Granata are closing in on an agreement to land the Scotland international on a Bosman deal after his contract at Southampton expired at the end of last month.

It’s been a dismal start to the summer for Torino. In addition to Ivan Juric’s exit, the Italians lost their standout midfield talent, Ivan Ilic, to Russian juggernauts Zenit St Petersburg. While Paolo Vanoli signed a short-term contract to replace the Croatian manager, they’ve yet to find a decent alternative to fill the gap in the engine room.

However, the club’s summer transfer dealings seem to be picking up steam. Adams, who joined Southampton from Birmingham City in 2019, halted his five-year stint at St Mary’s Stadium at the end of June after helping the Saints return to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old is ready to embark on a new chapter at Torino after embracing the club’s project. Adams featured for Scotland at EURO 2024, but the Tartan Army couldn’t make it out of the group stages in Germany. He can only hope to turn around his fortunes at Torino.

In addition to Adams, Torino are trying to hijack Inter’s pursuit of Venezia midfielder Tanner Tessmann. Valued at €7m, he’d be a low-cost replacement for Ilic, whose exit poured approximately €23m into the club’s coffers.
